WICHITA- The Jets hosted Kansas Christian for a Saturday afternoon match up. The Jets would defeat the Falcons, 98-42 with five Jets scoring double-digit points.
How it Happened:
- The Jets kicked off the first quarter of play with a 5-0 run with a three-pointer by
Paige Craft and a basket by
Amaya Perez. The Falcons would cut the Jets lead to two after hitting a three-pointer. Craft responded with her second three-pointer, taking Newman to an 8-3 lead. Perez followed this with her fourth point, taking the Jets to a 10-3 lead. A three-pointer by
Alexis Martin and a basket by
Dani Williams stretched the Jets run to 10-0, allowing Newman to take the 15-3 lead with five to play in the quarter. The Falcons responded with a 7-0 run to end the opening quarter. This would put the Jets up 15-10 heading into the second quarter.
- Out of the quarter break, the Jets offense put on another 10-0 run, taking their lead out to 23-10 with 7:30 to play. During this 10-0 surge,
Valeriya Lioukina scored four points while
Carli Carlson, Perez and McMillin all added two points. A three-pointer by the Falcons ended the Jets surge. This was followed by another five points by the Falcons, taking it to an seven point game with six minutes to play in the half. Another three-pointer by Craft took Newman back to a double-digit lead.
Delainey Wylie hit her first points of the day, connecting from behind the arc to give Newman the 31-19 lead with just under four minutes to play in the half. Back-to-back three-pointers by Craft and Martin extended the lead to 37-21 with just over a minute remaining. To close out the half, McMillin added three points with an and-one and D.Williams hit from behind the arc. The last basket of the half would be hit by the Falcons, taking it to a 43-24 contest, in favor of the Jets. Craft led the offense through the first half with 12 points, three assists, shooting 4-5 from behind the arc.
- The Falcons scored the first points of the third-quarter, with two free throws out of the halftime break. McMillin would score an and-one to get the Jets offense rolling in the third. Craft followed up McMillin's score with back-to-back three-pointers to take Newman's lead to 52-26 with seven to play in quarter three. This sparked a Jets 16-0 run with Lioukina, Martin, Wylie, and Perez all contributing to the offensive surge. This run was halted by a Falcons three, making the score 59-29. To end the third quarter, the Jets found a 9-3 run with two baskets by
Charlize Williams, and
Shishawna Begay, and McMillin contributing a basket a piece. With one quarter to play, the Jets held the 68-33 lead.
- Martin hit her 11th point of the game to start the final quarter. C. Williams, Martin, and Begay would take the Jets to a 14-0 run in the quarter to give Newman the 86-36 lead at the media timeout. With just under four to play, Martin hit her 20th point of the contest.
Kyndal Underwood scored her first basket of the game with 2:30 left. This sparked another offensive surge, going on a 9-0 run until the Falcons added the last basket of the contest with ten seconds remaining. Newman would take the dominant win, 98-42.
