WICHITA- Women's Tennis hosted Kingsville for a Friday morning matchup. The Jets kicked off their 2025 season with an exhibition win against Pratt CC. Against the Javelinas, the Jets took the doubles point, then took four singles matches to take the 5-2 win.
Mariana Jimenez and
Ani Zeikidze played in the #1 spot in doubles play. The pair was able to battle out a 7-5 win.
Luna Feillon and
Dana Issabayeva played in the #3 doubles spot. The pair took the match 6-4. These two doubles wins gave the Jets their first point of the match.
In singles play, Issabayeva played in the #1 spot. She dropped her first set, 7(7)-6(2) but was able to rally back and dominate in the next two sets winning 6-1 and 6-3 to give the Jets a 2-0 lead. The Javelinas took the #2 and #3 singles matches, tying the match at 2-2. At the #5 spot, Jimenez dominated the first set with a 6-2 win. Jimenez then dropped the second set, but rallied in the third set with a 6-2 win. This gave the Jets the 3-2 lead with two matches to finish at the #4 and #6 spots. At the #4 spot, Feillon dropped the first set 6-3. Feillon then rallied and took the win in the second set. In the third set, Feillon had the lead at 6-5 and was able to take the win at 7-5 to complete the comeback. The win by Feillon clinched the win for the Jets, giving them 4 points.
Anastassiya Kim rounded out the Jets lineup in the #6 singles spot. Kim took the first set with ease at 6-1, but was unable to win in the second set. In the tiebreak to take the match, Kim won the tiebreak third set 10-7.
The Jets took the win, 5-2.
Women's Tennis hits the road to Edmond, Oklahoma on Monday to take on Ouachita Baptist at 12 PM.
