Tennis falls to Northwest Missouri

WICHITA- The Jets hosted Northwest Missouri for conference matchups. Yesterday, the women's team defeated Missouri Western in their conference home opener, 5-2. Today the women's team dropped a close 4-3 battle. On the Men's side, the Jets battled but fell short at 4-3. 
 
Men's Tennis:
The Bearcats took the doubles point with wins at the two and three spots. Ali Mounir and Nicolo Lippolis took the win at the No. 1 doubles spot for the Jets. Northwest had the lead heading into singles play. Mounir took the Jets first singles win at the No. 1 singles spot with 6-1 and 6-4 wins. The Bearcats took the No. 5 singles match, to make the score 2-1 in favor of Northwest. The Bearcats extended their lead to 3-1 after taking the No. 6 doubles match. The Bearcats added a win at the No. 4 singles match to clinch the team match with a score of 4-1. The No. 3 match went to Nicolo Lippolis with a 7-6 first set win and a 6-3 second set win to make the score 4-2. Pavlo Vysotin was able to end the Jets day with a win at the No. 2 spot with a 6-0 win in the second set and a 7-6 win in the third. The Bearcats took the match, 4-3.

Women's Tennis: NU 3, NW 4
The Bearcats took the doubles point to start the match with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2. Dana Issabayeva and Luciana Flores Urey took their match at the No. 3 doubles spot at 6-2. Heading into singles play, the Bearcats had the 1-0 lead. The Bearcats pushed their lead to two with a win at the No. 4 singles spot. The Jets earned their first point at the No. 5 singles spot Mariana Jimenez took her match in two sets with 6-2 set one and 6-3 set two. This made the score 2-1 in favor of the Bearcats. At the No. 6 spot, the Bearcats took the point to make it a 3-1 lead. Issabayeva gave the Jets their next point, taking her No. 1 singles match at 6-4 and 7-5. This closed the deficit to 3-2, in favor of Northwest. Nicole Bono tied the score at 3-3 with a win at the No. 3 spot with a 6-1 win in the first set and a third set win at 6-4. The Bearcats clinched the match at the No. 2 singles spot to take the team match, 4-3. 

Next Up: Men's and Women's Tennis are back tomorrow at 10 AM to take on Weatherford College in exhibition play.
