Jets fall short on the road against the Lions

FORT SMITH, Ark.- The Jets hit the road to face the Lions of Arkansas-Fort Smith. Newman came up short, 72-53.

How it Happened: 
-Lioukina started the action for the Jets with a layup. The Lions and Jets traded points back and forth, a three-pointer made by Alexis Martin would put the Jets ahead by one for their first lead of the game. The Lions would draw a foul at the end of the first quarter and make a layup to tie the Jets 11 all. McMillin led Newman in the first quarter with six points.
-Free throws by Lioukina started off the second quarter, giving Newman the lead by two. The Lions took the lead, but the Jets bounced back with a made three-pointer by Carlson. Newman would then go on a 9-0 run in two minutes to stretch the lead to six making the score 22-16. After a 5-0 run for the lions, the teams traded off points for the remainder of the second quarter, ultimately giving the Lions the lead at half by two with the score 28-26. 
-Monica Redondo opened the third quarter for the Jets with a three-pointer. The Lions would extend their lead to eight points, forcing a Newman timeout. Following the timeout, McMillin made a pair of free throws. A block by Wylie and a layup by McMillin cut the lead to six and gained some momentum for the Jets. A made three-pointer by Carlson with 1:56 left in the quarter was not enough to close the gap. To end the quarter, UAFS stayed ahead 52-45.
-Alexis Martin scored the first points in the fourth quarter for the Jets to break up a 7-0 opening run from the Lions. After a timeout called by Newman, the Jets would look to gain some energy through a full court pressure against the Lions. Another 7-0 by the Lions would be broken up by a pair of free throws by McMillin. The Jets would fall to the Lions, 72-53.

-McMillin led all scorers with 22 points and adding 13 rebounds 
-Martin added 11 points 
-Wylie totaled three blocks 

Women's Basketball is back in action on January 23rd in Tahlequah, Oklahoma against NSU at 5:30 PM
