Last Time Out

Last week the Jets faced Arkansas-Fort Smith and Northeastern State. Against the Lions, Lioukina opened the scoring for the Jets. The teams began to trade off baskets early in the first quarter. Alexis Martin gave the Jets their first lead, but the Lions tied the game at 11 to end the first quarter. In the second quarter the Jets gained some momentum on a 9- 0 run, but the Lions cut the run short taking the lead 28-26 going into halftime. To open the third quarter Monica Redondo made a three-pointer. Shortly after the Lions stretched their lead to eight. Baskets by Wylie, McMillin, and Carlson were not enough to close the gap. Fort Smith stayed in front, 52-45, after three quarters. Martin scored first for Newman in the fourth, but the Lions pulled away taking the game 72-53. McMillin recorded a double double with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Martin tallied 11 points and Wylie recorded three blocks. 
On Friday night in Tahlequah, Oklahoma the Jets faced the RiverHawks. McMillin got the Jets started at the line after an opening 7-0 run by the RiverHawks. Three-pointers by Carlson, Martin, and Redondo cut the RiverHawks lead to two, but Northeastern State led 23-17 after one. To open the second, both teams traded off baskets. Ending the second the RiverHawks kept their lead by nine. The Jets stayed within striking distance. Free throws by Lioukina and Martin cut the lead to four. After the third, the Jets trailed by six making the score 66-60. In the fourth, points continued to go back and forth from the line. The RiverHawks would take the game 88-72. Martin led all scores recording 16 points with McMillin right behind with 15. 

Scouting the Jets 

The Jets average 66.1 points per game. Newman has tallied 37.2% from the field and 29.1% from behind the arc. The Jets average 6.7 steals, 3.3 blocks per game, and 36.7 rebounds per game. Individually, McMillin leads the Jets offense with 15.9 points per game. McMillin is currently fourth in scoring in the MIAA and second in free throw percentage. McMillin also leads the Jets with 6.6 rebounds per game. Martin continues to lead the Jets offense with three-pointers made (39) and is the second leading scorer for the Jets. In the MIAA individual rankings, Martin currently sits in third for three-point field goals averaging 2.1 per game and has a percentage of 34.5% which puts her in second for percentage. Paige Craft leads the Jets in minutes played. Craft currently leads the team in assists with 48 total while averaging 8.2 points per game. Delainey Wylie has recorded 23 blocks on the season. 

Behind Enemy Lines

Central Oklahoma recorded their last win against Arkansas-Fort Smith on January 10th in Edmond, Oklahoma with a score of 62-54. The Bronchos are on a four game losing streak with all three teams being conference opponents. Central Oklahoma and the Jets have met previously this year resulting in Central Oklahoma taking the game 73-55. The Bronchos average 64.1 points per game and have a field goal percentage of 37.3%. The team averages an impressive 41.4 rebounds per game. Individually, Nykaiya Dilliard leads the Bronchos with a scoring average of 12.8. Also in double digits is Kaitlyn McCarn with a scoring average of 11.3. Jerney Bennett averages 7.8 rebounds per game and has recorded an impressive 77 blocks. 

Rogers State is coming off a win against Nebraska-Kearney on January 24th. The Hillcats took the game with a score of 83-75. The most previous win broke up a four game losing streak. The Hillcats and Jets met for the first game of the year resulting in a Hillcat win with a score of 62-53. Rogers State averages 60.6 points per game. Additionally the team averages 7.8 steals and 36.9 rebounds per game. Individually, Ataya Casaus averages 9.1 points per game with Samatha Shanks right behind with averaging 9.0 points per game. Shanks also leads the team in steals with 28 and records an average of 6.2 rebounds. Jaiana Wiggins has a total of 27 blocks on the season. 

The Series 

-The Bronchos and the Jets have met 14 times. Newman has posted a 1-13 record with Central Oklahoma with the first win coming in February of 2023. 

-The Jets have posted a 14-11 record against the Hillcats. The last meeting was a close 53-62 loss for Newman. The last win for the Jets against the RiverHawks was in February of 2025.
