Last Time Out
The Jets opened 2026 with conference play at home on January 1st against Rogers State. Newman led for a majority of the game before a fourth quarter comeback from the Hillcats gave Rogers State the win. The Jets recorded an impressive 36 rebounds in the game. Alexis Martin went 5-8 behind the arc and led the Jets with 15 points. Paige Craft and Valeriya Lioukina both posted double-digit points. Craft led the team in minutes played. On January 3rd the Jets continued conference play against Central Oklahoma. In the end, Newman fell short to Central Oklahoma. Newman went 5-5 from the line. Carli Carlson recorded her career high leading the team in scoring with 14 points while also recording seven rebounds. Martin added to the total  recording 11 points. Delainey Wylie recorded a total of nine rebounds. 

Scouting the Jets 

The Jets average 68.6 points per game, allowing their opponents 62.5 points per game. Newman has tallied 38.8% from the field and 29.4% from behind the arc. The Jets average seven steals and three blocks per game. Individually, McMillin leads the Jets offense with 14.4 points per game on 44.6% shooting, while averaging 14 steals per game. Martin continues to lead the Jets offense with three-pointers made (24). Lioukina leads the Jets in total rebounds with an average of 5.8 per game totaling 75 thus far, while averaging 7.2 points per game. Monica Redondo continues to lead the Jets in minutes played while averaging 3.5 rebounds per game. Craft currently leads the team in assists while averaging 9.2 points per game.  

Behind Enemy Lines


Pittsburg State is currently ranked No. 11. The team's overall record is 11-3 with a 4-1 conference record. The Gorillas have been on a five game winning streak before falling short to the Missouri Southern Lions on Tuesday January 6th. Opening the new year in the winning streak the Gorillas played two conference games against Arkansas Fort-Smith and Northeastern State, where they took both wins. As a team the Gorillas are averaging 71.6 points per game, while their opponents score 64.3 points per game. PSU is shooting 39.7% from the field and 26.8% behind the arc. The team averages 43.1 rebounds per game. Individually, Ja'Miya Brown leads the Gorillas offense with 14 points per game. Harper Schreiner leads the team with an average of an impressive 17 steals per game while also recording 12.2 points per game. Kaycee McCumber records an average of 9.2 rebounds per game contributing to the team's high total average. 

Missouri Southern posted a 4-0 winning record in December play to close out the year. The teams overall record is 10-4 with a 4-1 conference record. The Lions opened up the year in conference play going 1-1. On January 3rd, the Lions fell short to Arkansas Forth-Smith in Forth Smith, Arkansas. On January 6th, the Lions defeated ranked No.11 Pittsburg State 82-73 at home in Joplin, Missouri. This was Missouri Southern's first top 15 win since January of 2024. The Lions were led to victory over the Gorillas by Ashlyn Alloway scoring 30 points. As a team the Lions are averaging 77.2 points per game. Individually, three Lions average double-digits per game, Ashlyn Alloway, Grace Frazier, and Nariah Clay. Alloway averages 15.7 points per game and leads the team in blocks. Frazier records 15.3 points per game as well as leading the team in steals and assists. Clay averages 13.4 points per game.

The Series 
-The Jets have met the Gorillas 12 times with the Gorillas taking all 12 meetings. 

-The Jets have faced Missouri Southern 11 times coming up with three wins in past meetings. Newman last won in January of 2025 in Fugate Gymnasium. 

Next Up
The Jets will return home to face Central Missouri and Washburn. The Jets will face the Jennies on January 14th at 5:30 PM. They will then face Washburn on January 17th at 1:30 PM.
