WICHITA- The Jets fall to the Griffons in a tough contest at home, the final score after the conclusion of double overtime was 94-88.
How it Happened:
– Valeriya Lioukina got off to a strong start with a layup to start the first period, which was quickly followed by a Paige Craft three-pointer. A good Griffon free throw with just under four minutes left would bring the score level 9-9. Throughout the first quarter, the largest lead margin was four points. The score at the end of the first would be in favor of the Griffons, 13-11.
– Two good free throws by Alexis Martin in the first twenty seconds of the second half would even the score at 13-13. A good jumper by Craft would put the Jets up by two. For the remainder of the period, the Griffons would lead. The Griffons would stretch their lead out to eight points, which was quickly cut down to five points by a Delainey Wylie three-pointer. A late three-pointer by Monica Redondo would send the Jets into the half down by 4, 34-30.
– Lioukina and Amaya Perez started the third period off with layups. A Redondo three-pointer would even the score at 37-37. Craft would follow with a three-pointer to put the Jets up by three points. The Jets would continue with good shooting form with threes by Dani Williams and Carli Carlson, to keep the Jets ahead. Back-to-back fastbreaks by the Griffons would bring the score within one point.
– Going into the fourth period, the Jets would lead 56-59. Redondo would sink another three-pointer to start the scoring in the fourth. Four straight points to Martin would give the Jets a 10-point lead. With under two minutes left, the Griffons would score five straight points to bring the game within two points. With less than two seconds to go, the Griffons would draw a foul, making both free throws to even the score at 78-78, sending the game into overtime.
– The Griffons would start the first overtime with five straight points. Both teams would trade off points, with the Griffons staying in the lead. Carlson would make two threes in the last minute to end the period 86-86, forcing the game into double overtime.
– The Griffons would again get off to a quick start in overtime, scoring the first six points of the period. Perez would go on to make two free throws, but that would not be enough to surpass the Griffons. The final score would be 88-94.
