Softball sweeps Griffons

WICHITA- The Jets hosted Missouri Western State University for a doubleheader on Thursday, April 2nd. Newman swept Missouri Western for the first time in series history to record their first conference wins. Game one, 8-5 and game two, 12-6.

Game one vs Missouri Western State University: NU 8, MWSU 5
-The Jets got on the board in the first inning as Lani Dryden launched a two-run home run to center, scoring Malie Noda, who got on base by an error. This would give Newman a 2-0 advantage. They added to the lead in the second when Noda delivered an RBI double, making it 3-0. Newman continued to build momentum in the third with RBI singles from Lauren McNaught and Emma Taylor to extend the lead to 5-0.
-Missouri Western responded in the fifth, scoring three runs highlighted by a two-RBI double to cut the deficit to 5-3. The Griffons tied the game in the sixth with a two-run home run from Sydney Young.
-The Jets answered immediately in the bottom half of the inning with three runs and three hits, as Audry Rumsey delivered a three-run home run to center to put Newman back in front, 8-5. Newman held Missouri Western scoreless the rest of the way to secure the win. Newman would record their first conference win, 8-5.

Game two: NU 12, MWSU 6
-The Jets wasted no time getting on the board in game two, scoring four runs in the first inning. AJ Borja delivered a two-RBI single, followed by an RBI single from Lauren McNaught and a sacrifice fly from Emma Taylor to give Newman an early 4-0 lead.
-After Missouri Western got one back on a solo home run in the second, Newman answered with three more runs in the bottom half. Borja drove in another run with a double, while McNaught and Taylor each drew RBI walks to extend the lead to 7-1.
-The Griffons would add two runs in the fifth to make it 7-3, but Newman responded with a three-run inning of its own, highlighted by an RBI single from Laci Dryden, a sacrifice fly from Malie Noda, and a run scored on a wild pitch to push the lead to 10-3.
-Missouri Western scored three runs in the sixth to cut the deficit to 10-6. The Jets answered once more in the bottom half, as RBI singles from Noda and Lani Dryden added two runs. The Jets would hold the Griffons to sweep Missouri Western in game two, 12-6.

-Lani Dryden recorded one home run, five hits, two runs, and three RBIs.
-Noda recorded three hits, one double, three RBIs and two runs.
-Nordby one hit and two runs.
-Borja had three hits, three runs, three RBIs, and one double. 
-McNaught added two hits and three RBIs. 
-Taylor recorded three hits, three RBIs, and two runs. 

Newman Softball will host Northwest Missouri for a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 12 PM.
