Dani Leal is in her first season as a Graduate Assistant Coach for Newman softball.
 
Prior to NU, Leal was an assistant softball coach at Louisiana State University Eunice. During her one season at LSU Eunice, the Bengals won the NJCAA Division II National Championship with a 62-5 record. LSU Eunice had two NJCAA All-Americans in her one season as a Bengal. Her duties ranged from administrative work to recruiting in addition to coaching.  
 
Leal graduated from Baylor University with a degree in general studies in May 2012. During the 2-12 season, Leal was a student assistant coach on the Baylor staff after a distinguished two-year career as a Lady Bear from 2010-11.
 
At Baylor, she was a 2011 Third Team All-American as well as Second Team All-Region and First Team All-Big 12 after guiding Baylor to its second Women’s College World Series appearance. A starting shortstop for two seasons, Leal ranks No. 6 on BU’s all-time home run list.
 
Prior to Baylor, Leal played two seasons at Pratt (Kan.) Community College where she was All-KJCCC selection.
 
Born and raised in Mexico City, Mexico, Leal was a two-year member of the Mexican National team from 2005 to 2006.
 
Leal is pursuing a master’s of business administration at NU with a concentration in international business.
