Clarissa Krum is entering her fifth year as the assistant coach for the Newman women’s basketball team in 2020-21.
Krum assists with all facets of the Jets program, including team and individual game preparation, as well as recruiting and team operations.
The Jets recorded their third straight winning season in 2018-2019 posting an overall record of 21-10 and a conference mark of 10-4, both career bests for the fourth year assistant coach. Newman earned a pair of runner-up finishes in both the Heartland Conference regular-season and Heartland Conference tournament, falling just outside their first NCAA Tournament selection since the 2011-2012 season. Newman knocked off nationally-ranked and eventual national champion Lubbock Christian 69-67 on Feb. 21 notching their second straight season with a win over a nationally ranked opponent.
The Jets recorded their second straight winning season in 2017-18, finishing 17-12 and 8-6 in Heartland Conference play despite a brutal nonconference schedule. Newman topped nationally-ranked Emporia State on Nov. 20, and wound up finishing fourth in the conference standings behind two-time first-team all-conference performer Hannah Alexander.
In her first season with the Jets, Krum helped the team to its best overall record in five years, going 19-10 and reaching the Heartland Conference tournament for the second year in a row. A pair of Newman players were named to the all-conference team in Alexander and Mali Wright.
She came to Newman after two seasons as the assistant coach at Western Texas College, where she helped the Westerners to a 36-26 record, putting together 18 victories each season. Prior to joining the staff at WTC, Krum was a graduate assistant on the Lubbock Christian women’s basketball staff during the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons, assisting with scouting and film while also coaching the junior varsity team.
Krum holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas, where she played her final two years of her collegiate career. She was twice named to the all-academic team in the American Southwest Conference, and helped the team to an ASC title and a trip to the NCAA Division III tournament. She completed her master's in Organizational Leadership in 2019 at Newman University.
