Destiny Clark

Destiny Clark is entering her third year as the head coach of the Newman women’s volleyball program in 2017-18.

In two seasons at the helm, Clark has amassed an overall record of 46-20, including 22-8 mark in Heartland Conference play, and a pair of postseason berths.

The 2016 season was the second straight 20-win year for Newman, which won five straight matches late in the season to qualify for the Heartland Conference tournament for the second year in a row.

In their first season with Clark at the helm, the Jets reached new heights, setting a program record in wins by going 26-9 overall in 2015. Newman put up a 13-3 mark in Heartland Conference play, reaching the conference postseason for the third time in the NCAA Division II era, and earning its first postseason victory by topping Lubbock Christian 3-1.

The Jets took conference regular-season and postseason champion Arkansas-Fort Smith — which would go on to reach the NCAA Elite Eight for the second straight year — to the brink, handing the Lions three of their six lost sets to conference foes all season.

Individual accolades have also poured in for the Jets under Clark’s tutulage, with six total players earning all-conference awards. In 2016, Ashley Gonzalez earned league Player of the Year and Alexus Litts the Heartland’s Setter of the Year. Gonzalez and Litts were also each named all-region, while Gonzalez capped the year off with an All-America nod from the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

Prior to Newman, Clark spent four seasons coaching volleyball at Wichita Collegiate School, the final two years as head coach, pushing the Spartans to the second round of sub-state in 2013.

Clark was also the head strength and conditioning coach for female athletes at Collegiate, and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. She also served as head coach for the ICT MAVS 18-1 club team, advancing to club nationals each season at the helm.

Clark was a standout volleyball player at the University of Arkansas, captaining the 2008 team and still holding the team record for blocks in a single match with 18. The Manhattan, Kansas native received both her bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and master’s degree in exercise science from Arkansas.
