ODESSA, Texas - The Newman women's soccer team battled Texas-Permian Basin to a 1-1 tie Sunday afternoon in Odessa, Texas.
The Falcons struck quickly in the match, taking a 1-0 lead just two minutes into the contest when Hannah Dozier put a one-timer past NU keeper
Christina Farid, and into the back of the goal. Dozier's goal ended up being the only goal of the first half, as neither team could score in the remaining 43 minutes of the opening half.
Newman took a page out of the UTPB book, needing just three minutes to score in the second half when
Lauren Benning was able to launch a ball into the goal for the equalizer that set up the 1-1 tie after neither team could score in the remaining 62 combined minutes of the second half and two overtime periods.
Nearly every statistical category was even in the match. Newman recorded 20 shots, while UTPB finished with 19 shot attempts. The Jets were whistled for 11 fouls while UTPB was called for seven fouls, and each team had eight corner kicks in the match.
With the tie, the Jets move to 5-5-3, and 3-2-1 in Heartland Conference play. Newman is back in action Friday when Texas A&M International pays a visit to Wilkins Field for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
