Volleyball Sweeps TAMIU, 3-0

LAREDO, Texas - The Newman volleyball team won its fourth Heartland Conference match in five tries, and picked up its first road win Saturday with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-18) win over Texas A&M International in Laredo, Texas. Chelsey Potter led the Jets with 14 kills and 15 digs for her sixth double-double of the season.

Newman (8-17, 4-4) out-performed Texas A&M International (3-21, 2-7) in every major statistical category on their way to the convincing sweep. The Jets posted 48 kills to TAMIU's 31 kills, and owned a 46-30 edge on assists. Newman also maintained a 56-48 advantage in digs.

While Potter's 14-kill, 15-dig double-double led the Jets in each category, Angie Bennett and Sarah Bailey each finished with impressive outings. Bennett finished with a 10-kill, 10-dig double-double, while Bailey added 11 kills behind a .348 hitting percentage, and committed just three attack errors.

Amy Shorette finished with 14 digs from the libero position, while Caroline Painter's 39 assists were a team-high for the match.

With the win, the Jets improve to 8-17 on the season, and 4-4 in the Heartland Conference. Newman is now in sole possession of fifth place in the Heartland Conference.
