#12 Hilltoppers Top Jets, 3-0

WICHITA - A big first half by 12th-ranked St. Edward's proved to be too much for the Newman women's soccer team, as the Hilltoppers defeated the Jets, 3-0, Sunday afternoon at Wilkins Field.

St. Edward's (8-1-1, 3-0 HC) made their statement early, posting all three goal in the first 25 minutes of play. SEU's Jordan Ynostrosa opened the scoring by heading a Kim Abbott pass into the left-back corner of the net from two yards out. Eight minutes later, Abbott scored a goal of her own when Brianna Hinnenkamp's pass was deflected by Newman (4-5-2, 1-2 HC) keeper Christina Farid. Abbott got ahold of the deflected ball, and sent it into the net for SEU's second score of the game.

The Hilltoppers struck again just a minute later as Janae Averett found Kelly Servage in a crowd near the left corner of the goal. Using the crowd to her advantage, Servage was able to shoot the ball past Farid, and into the back of the net to give SEU the 3-0 margin they would go on to win by.

St. Edward's out-shot Newman 16-6 in the match. Half of SEU's shots were on goal, and five were saved by Farid. SEU keeper Claire Tilton saved four Newman shots.

With the loss, the Jets fall to 4-5-2 on the season, and 2-2 in Heartland Conference play. They are back in action Friday when they travel to Dallas Baptist.
