WICHITA -
Kayde Kluge's early goal wasn't enough to push the Newman women's soccer team over the top Friday night, as the Jets dropped a 3-1 decision to Dallas Baptist.
Kluge scored in the 15th minute of the game off a blocked shot attempt. Kluge found the open ball and pushed it past DBU keeper Haley Corbell to give the Jets the early 1-0 advantage. Dallas Baptist scored their equalizer three minutes later when Brittany Layne snuck the ball past NU keeper
Christina Farid and into the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1.
The game remained tied into the halftime break, but the visiting Patriots made their statement in the final 45 minutes. DBU took a 2-1 lead when Sarah Meierhofer's shot from 20 yards out got past Farid. The Patriots struck once more in the game when Hope Adams scored off a corner kick from Meierhofer and Allyson Bales to give DBU the 3-1 margin they would go on to win by.
With the loss, the Jets fall to 8-6-4 on the season, and 6-3-2 in Heartland Conference play. They will play their final match of the 2009 season Tuesday when they host Texas-Permian Basin in a rare 4 p.m. senior day contest at Wilkins Field.
