-Newman squares off against its second-consecutive undefeated opponent when the Pittsburg State Gorillas visit Fugate Gymnasium Tuesday evening for a 7:30 p.m. tip. The Gorillas are 3-0 after coming from behind to beat Missouri S&T last weekend in Pittsburg.

-Both teams took on NCAA Div. I opponents in pre-season exhibition contests. PSU opened with an 89-53 loss at Kansas State, then fell to No. 1 Kansas, 103-45, two days later in Lawrence. The Gorillas concluded their exhibition slate with a 91-52 loss at UNLV. Meanwhile, the Jets fell 81-69 to cross-town opponent Wichita State, before dropping a 77-58 decision four days later at pre-season Sun Belt favorite North Texas.

-Pitt State leads the all-time series 15-9, with Newman's last win coming in a 91-83 decision on Jan. 13, 1987. Each of the last two meetings have been decided in the final seconds, with PSU winning last year's contest on a buzzer-beater in Pittsburg.

-After posting a 252-154 record over the past 14 seasons, legendary Pitt State Head Coach Gene Iba has announced that he plans to retire following the 2009-10 season.
