-Newman squares off against its third-consecutive undefeated opponent when they travel to Hays for a 7 p.m. contest with the Fort Hays State Tigers. The Tigers are 3-0 this season after a 75-60 win over Nebraska-Kearney Tuesday night in Kearney, Neb.
-Both teams took on NCAA Div. I opponents in pre-season exhibition contests. FHSU opened with a loss to No. 1 Kansas, 107-68, in Lawrence, while the Jets fell 81-69 to cross-town opponent Wichita State, before dropping a 77-58 decision four days later at pre-season Sun Belt favorite North Texas.
-Fort Hays State leads the all-time series 29-8, with Newman's last win coming in a 75-69 decision in 1981. The Tigers won last season's meeting, defeating the Jets 82-66 on Jan. 2 inside Fugate Gymnasium. FHSU has now won 15-straight over the Jets.
-Newman was picked to finish fifth in the Heartland Conference by conference coaches and sports information directors. Fort Hays State was tabbed sixth by a similar group in the MIAA.
