ODESSA, Texas - Newman's 2009 volleyball campaign ended with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-20, 25-19) loss to Texas-Permian Basin Saturday afternoon at the Falcon Dome in Odessa, Texas. Freshman
Sarah Bailey gave the Jets a glimpse of the future, leading the team with 11 kills behind a .529 hitting percentage.
Newman (11-21, 6-8) struggled offensively in the sweep, posting a .123 hitting percentage in the match while Texas-Permian Basin (16-19, 9-5) hit at a .282 clip. The Jets were led offensively by Bailey, who was the only Newman player to post double-digit kill totals.
Chelsey Potter led Newman's defensive efforts with a 11-dig outing, while
Caroline Painter's 17 assists was a team high.
Ashley Myers split time with Painter at the setter position and posted 10 assists in the loss.
With the loss, the Jets end their season with a 11-21 overall record, and a 6-8 mark in Heartland Conference play.
