-Newman looks to extend its win streak to four Thursday when they open Heartland Conference play by hosting the St. Edward's Hilltoppers Thursday evening inside Fugate Gymnasium. The Jets are 5-1 in Fugate this eason after ditching NAIA power York College, 88-76, last Saturday. 

-Tonight's contest is a re-match of the game that decided the final bid into the Heartland Conference Championship tournament last season. The Hilltoppers edged Newman by five points to claim the final spot, finishing 1/2 game ahead of the Jets in the final Heartland Conference standings.

-Newman is 1-1 in Heartland Conference openers, both of which have come against St. Edward's. The Jets defeated the Hilltoppers, 74-68, at home in last season's conference opener, and dropped their first-ever Heartland Conference game to St. Edward's in an 81-67 decision to open the 2007-08 conference season.

-The Hilltoppers own an 11-8 lead in the all-time series with Newman. The Jets are 1-3 against St. Edward's since joining the Heartland Conference in 2008.

-Junior Will Burdette has been cleared to play in tonight's game after being ineligible during the first semester of the season.
