Women's Soccer Falls at Central Oklahoma, 1-0

EDMOND, Okla. - The Newman women's soccer team gave up just one goal for the fourth time in five games, but couldn't counter in a 1-0 loss to Central Oklahoma Sunday evening at Wantland Stadium in Edmond, Okla.

Playing in rainy conditions for the first time this season, the Jets were able to keep the Bronchos off the board throughout the first half. UCO tested Newman goal keeper Christina Faried early in the half with a close-range shot, but Farid stood her ground, and helped send the Jets to the halftime break with a scoreless tie.

The Bronchos scored the game's only goal with 32:14 left to play when Brittni Walker took the ball from 35-yards out, dribbled 20 yards, and knocked in a shot from 15 yards out.

After a 15-minute lightning delay halfway through the second period, Newman saw its best chance to score near the 17-minute mark, but a sliding save by UCO keeper Megan Riley kept the Jets off the board, and gave the Bronchos the 1-0 win.

With the loss, the Jets fall to 1-3-2 on the season. They will look to get back on the winning track Wednesday when they host NAIA foe Sterling in a 7 p.m. match at Wilkins Field.
