FHSU Sneaks Past Jets, 3-1

WICHITA - A season-high 16 kills from senior Angie Bennett wasn't enough to stop Fort Hays State, as the Tigers snuck away with a 3-1 win over Newman Wednesday night at Fugate Gymnasium.

Bennett set new season-highs in both kills (16) and attack percentage (.406) in the match. Her and Sarah Bailey were the only Jets to finish the match with double-digit kills. Bailey tied her career high kills mark (13) in the Jets loss. Ashley Myers earned a team-high 23 assists to lead the Jets, but Caroline Painter was close behind with 22 assists in the match. Defensively, Amy Shorette's 16 led Newman.

FHSU's Lydia Karnopp led all offensive players, finishing with 24 kills behind a match-high .444 hitting percentage. Whitney Liggett led all setters with 35 assists, while Tracie Hileman's 25 led all defensive players.

As a team, Newman hit .222, and held the Tigers to a .177 clip.

With the loss, the Jets fall to 4-11 on the season, while the Tigers improve to 5-14. Newman is back in action this weekend as they travel to Pittsburg, Kan., for the PSU Invitational, where they will open with Missouri Southern in a noon match.
