DALLAS, Texas – The Newman women's soccer team fell to Heartland Conference rival Dallas Baptist, 3-1, Saturday afternoon in Dallas.
Mallory Hurst netted her second goal of the season as Newman's lone goal scorer.
Dallas Baptist (5-8, 3-2 Heartland) wasted little time finding the goal, as Kourtney Edwards headed in a corner kick from Allyson Bales to give the Patriots an early 1-0 lead less than two minutes into the game
DBU added another goal at the 34:00 mark, when Allyson Bales put in a rebound off a Brittany Layne shot to give the Patriots a 2-0 lead they held into halftime.
The patriots opened the second half with another early goal. This time Brittany Layne received a cross-pass from Chelsea Smith and found the back of the net at the 46:24 mark to give the Patriots a comfortable 3-0 lead.
Newman (6-6, 2-2) finally got on the board at the 60:05 mark, as
Mallory Hurst found the back of the net off a Allie Zingo pass, to cut the lead to 3-1.
DBU out-shot NU 20-10, and was able to win the corner kick battle 9-4.
With the loss, the Jets drop to 6-6 overall, and 2-2 in Hearltand Conference play. NU will return to action on Thursday when they travel to Austin, Texas to face St. Edwards in a 4 p.m. match.
