AUSTIN, Texas – The Newman women's soccer team dropped its second-straight contest ina 3-0 decision to the No. 8 St. Edward's Hilltopper's Thursday afternoon at SEU Soccer Field in Austin, Texas. The shutout was just the fourth for the Jets this season.
St. Edward's (13-0-1, 6-0 HC) took the upper hand early, when Kelly Servage found the back of the net at the 3:41 mark, to give the Hilltopper's a 1-0 lead.
SEU added its second goal at the 38:41 mark, when Katie Orkild fired a pass from Emily Arnold, and found the back of the net. The Hilltoppers added a late goal off a Kelly Servage penalty kick and put the game out of reach at 3-0.
Newman (6-7, 2-3 HC) was out-shot 25-4 in the match, but
Christina Farid turned away seven shots.
With the loss, the Jets drop to 6-7 overall and 2-3 in the Heartland Conference. Newman returns to action Oct. 23, when they travel to Texas-Permian Basin, for a 1 p.m. match.
