Humphrey Lifts Jets to 3-2 Overtime Win

WICHITASade Humphrey's overtime goal led the Newman women's soccer team to a 3-2 victory over Texas-Permian Basin Tuesday afternoon at Wilkins Field. The win improved Newman's record to 3-1 in overtime play.

Texas-Permian Basin (4-13, 1-9 Heartland) found the net just five minutes into the game, when Hannah Dozier kicked in a pass from Sadie Moya, to put the Falcons up 1-0. Newman (9-8, 5-4) answered in the 32nd minute when Amanda Knabe headed a Megan Hostick corner kick to even the score at 1-1.

Midway through the second half, Hostick scored her first goal of the season when she put back a deflection off a save by UTPB's keeper to give the Jets a 2-1 lead.

With just a minute and a half left in the match, Moya tied things up at 2-2, when she headed in a cross pass from Hannah Dozier to send game into overtime.

Sade Humphrey took things into her own hands early in the overtime period. The junior transfer needed just 21 seconds to net her eighth goal of the season to give the Jets a 3-2 win.

The Jets out shot the Falcons 22-7 in the match, and finished with 10 corner kicks.

With the win, the Jets improve to 9-8 overall and 5-4 in Heartland Conference play. They will return to action, Sunday hosting Dallas Baptist for Senior Day, with the match scheduled for a 1 p.m. kick off.
