WICHITA - The Newman men's tennis team wasted little time taking care of NAIA foe Tabor, picking up a 7-2 win over the Bluejays Tuesday afternoon at Genesis Health Club. Newman won two of the three doubles matches, and won each of the top five singles matches.

Jimmy Dunseith and Nathan Peters got things going early for the Jets, picking up an 8-5 win over Tabor's No. 1 tandem of David Simmet and Andy Adrian. Newman's No. 2 team of Kevin Klein and Juraj Surovy followed with an 8-3 win over Tabor's Jeremy Reiswig and Jakob Brucks. The Bluejays crawled back into the match, picking up a win at No. 3 doubles when Samuel Brucks and Cory Simms downed Newman's Derek Emmert and Mark Riedl, 8-5, to conclude doubles play. By that point, Newman held a 2-1 lead.

The Jets put the match away in singles play. Dunsieth cruised to a 6-1, 6-4 win over Simmet, while Surovy downed Valle, 6-1, 6-1. Klein clinched the match for the Jets, sweeping Jakob Brucks, 6-0, 6-0, to give the Jets the decisive fifth point. Newman won two of the remaining three singles matches en route to the 7-2 win.

With the win, the Jets improve to 4-3 on the season. They will be back in action Thursday with two matches. The Jets host Cameron at 10 a.m. before taking on Bethel at 3 p.m. Thursday's match with Bethel had originally been scheduled to be played in North Newton, but has been moved to Wichita due to a delay in court construction at Bethel. Both matches on Thursday are slated to be played at the Riverside Tennis Center.
