The Lions of Texas A&M-Commerce (2-0) came out roaring in the early minutes of the first half. Forward Ellee DeFreitas beat Newman keeper
Christina Farid one-on-one from 15 yards out in just the third minute of the match to give the Lions an early 1-0 lead.
Newman (2-2) turned up the pressure defensively through the remainder of the match, allowing just two other shots on goal, but the Jets couldn't find a way to score against TAMC keeper Randi Hafele, who posted her second-consecutive shutout.
As a team, Newman out-shot the Lions 7-5, but the Lions won the battle of corner kicks 6-0.
With the loss, the Jets drop to 2-2 on the season. They will return to action Friday when they travel to Weatherford, Okla., to take on Southwestern Oklahoma State.
