Early Goals Sink Women's Soccer, 2-0

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Two early goals spelled doom for the Newman women's soccer team, who dropped a 2-0 decision to Midwestern State Sunday afternoon at MSU Soccer Field in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Midwestern State (5-1) needed just four minutes to net the first goal of the game, and added another goal less than two minutes later to give the hosting Mustangs a 2-0 lead with just under 40 minutes still remaining in the first half.

Newman (2-4) turned up the defensive pressure throughout the remainder of the game. Junior keeper Christina Farid saved four MSU shots on goal to make sure the score didn't get any worse. Unfortunately for Farid, however, the Jets were unable to get the ball past MSU keeper Mallory Whitworth, who denied the Jets of both of their shots on goal.

With the loss, the Jets fall to 2-4 on the season. They will return to action Wednesday, when they travel across U.S. Highway 54/400 to take on arch rival Friends in a 7 p.m. contest at Adair Austin Stadium.
