WICHITA- The Newman's Men's basketball team will open up its 2011-12 regular season in the Newman University Conference Challenge against Missouri S&T. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. inside Fugate Gymnasium in Wichita, Kan.. Today's game marks the first time that Newman has ever faced Missouri S&T in men's basketball.

Meet the Jets...

Newman returns six players from a squad that finished the 2010-11 season with a 15-12 overall record, and a 7-5 mark in Hearland Conference play. The Jets are coming off of a 94-51 victory over Manhattan Christian in their lone exhibition game. Five players scored in double figures in that contest, led by Josh Pleasant's 12 point outing. Ryan Mesh led Newman with six rebounds. The Jets shot 48.5 percent from the field, and out-muscled the Crusaders on the glass, out-rebounding Manhattan Christian 40-33 in the contest.

Scouting Missouri S&T...

Missouri S&T returns nine players from a team that finished 7-18 overall in 2010-11, and 3-15 in Great Valley Conference action. The Miners are coming off of a 97-65 defeat at the hands of Southern Illinois on November 5th, their only exhibition game of the season. Missouri S&T was led by Tommy Pelczynski, who scored a game-high 30 points off of a six-for-11 shooting day from behind the arc. Against a taller and more-athletic Saluki squad, Missouri S&T shot 43.1 percent from the field, and thirty-five percent from three-point range.
