Potter Picks Up 250th Win as Jets Drub Jewell

Box Score WICHITA - Head Coach Mark Potter earned the 250th win of his career in a 66-56 victory over William Jewell Saturday evening inside Fugate gymnasium. Junior Eric Saunders led the Jets with 14 points, and was one of four Jets to post double-figures in the contest.

The Jets started off strong with a three-point basket by Mason Felter to start the game.  Newman only allowed two baskets to William Jewell in the opening minutes and led 11-4 at the 15:00 mark in the fist half.  Chuck Coley helped the Jets take their largest lead of the game when he made a layup at the 9:49 mark to make the score 17-8.  William Jewell continued to fire back, narrowing the margin to one at the 3:31 mark.  The half ended with a trey from freshman Ryan McCarthy that gave Newman a 32-29 lead at the half.

Newman never looked back in the second half either.  The Jets quickly made a charge, including a signature three-ball by Connor Walker to give Newman 41-31 at the 13:37 mark.  The Cardinals kept trying to put a dent in the Jets' lead, but continued to lag behind after a perfect two-for-two effort from Bobby Wesley at the free-throw line at the 5:29 mark.  Newman continued to push forward, including a stunning slam dunk by Chuck Coley at the 50 second mark that gave the Jets a 60-52 advantage.  The game ended with a Cardinal basket at the 9.7 second mark, but the Jets took the game with a 66-56 victory.

Eric Saunders led the Jets with 14 points including a six-for-eight effort on the night, while Darrell Traylor nabbed 12 rebounds.  Chuck Coley took three steals in the game, and four different players grabbed three-point baskets.  As a team, Newman shot .426 (23-54) from the field and .615 (16-26) from the free throw line.

Nick Larson led all scorers and rebounders with 22 points and 14 rebounds.

With the win, Newman moves to 7-2 on the season.  The Jets remain undefeated at home and look to improve their four-game winning streak when they play Southwestern on Dec. 17 at 4:30 p.m. inside Fugate Gymnasium.
