WICHITA - The Newman men's tennis team snapped a three-match losing streak with a 9-0 sweep of NAIA foe Tabor Tuesday afternoon at Riverside Tennis Center.
Newman (5-6) opened the dual match by routing Tabor (3-4) in doubles play.
Chris King and
Jimmy Dunseith got things going with an 8-1 win over Tabor's David Simmet and Mike Jaderston on the No. 1 court. Igor Ozegovic and
Nathan Peters followed with an 8-5 win over TC's Cory Simms and Kelyn Vix in No. 2 doubles, while the Jets' No. 3 tandem of
Kevin Klein and
Victor Bello completed the sweep with an 8-2 win over Sam Brucks and Jeremy Reiswig.
It didn't get any easier for the visiting Bluejays in singles play. King opened Newman's singles competition with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Simmet, while Ozegovic followed with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Gabriel Valle to clinch the match.
With the win, the Jets improve to 5-6 on the season. They will open Heartland Conference play Sunday with a 10 a.m. match against St. Edward's in Austin, Texas.
