Box Score Wichita, Kansas- The Newman men's basketball team remains undefeated as they narrowly escaped the Tigers of Fort Hays State University 80-78 inside Fugate Gymnasium this Saturday.  Shamar Acuay led all scorers with 29 points.

The Tigers got off to a roaring start in the first half, taking an easy 11-0 lead in the first few minutes.  Shamar Acuay got the Jets on the board with a lay-up at the 14:30 mark.  The Jets quickly turned the game around, going on an uncontested 16-point run that included a characteristic three-point basket by junior Trae Beck.  Newman never let go of their lead and headed to the locker rooms with 43-35 advantage.

The Jets kept hold of a narrow lead in the first few minutes of the second half that strengthened to 11 points after a lay-up by Ryan McCarthy at the 15:11 mark. A pair of free throws by Shamar Acuay gave the Jets their largest lead of the night, 71-56, with six minutes remaining in the game.  The Tigers continued to battle their way back into the game, but a final three point basket by Craig Nicholson wasn't enough to hold off Newman's victory of 80-78.
