The Match-Up
About the Jets...
The Jets will look to snap a two-game losing streak on Thursday, when they travel to San Antonio, Texas to take on the St. Mary's Rattlers. St. Mary's is currently third in the Heartland Conference standings. Newman is tied with Texas A&M International for the top spot in the conference. The Jets own the tie-breaker after defeating the Dustdevils, 70-66 on Jan. 12. Newman defeated St. Mary's in this season's first meeting with the Rattlers, 76-74, inside Fugate Gymnasium. On their current road trip, the Jets are averaging 72.0 points per game, and are allowing its opponents to just 68.0 points per contest. Shamar Acuay (13.9 ppg) has been an essential part of Newman's offensive game plan. The Queens, N.Y. native netted 20 points in the Jets' first meeting against the Rattlers.

The Rattlers enter Thursday's game on winning terms, snapping a two-game losing streak against St. Edward's, 75-66, on Feb. 4 in San Antonio, Texas. St. Mary's is led by two-time First Team All-Heartland forward, Kevin Kotzur (17.2 ppg). The redshirt-junior from La Vernia, Texas has been slowed down since the Rattlers' first meeting with Newman, averaging 12.2 points per game, five points off of his season average. Kotzur is joined in double-figures by Lamb Autrey (11.8 ppg) and Daryell Taylor (11.6 ppg). Autrey poured in 18 points in his first meeting against the Jets. Taylor scored a season-high 17 points in a 72-68 loss against Indianapolis on Dec. 17.

First Half Notes
-Eric Saunders scored the games first points on a jumper at the 18:21 mark.
-A pair of Jordan McGowen free-throws sparked a 6-0 Patriot run, giving DBU an 8-4 edge with 16:25 remaining.
-Kalub Long's jumper sparked a 4-0 spurt, tying the game 8-8 with 13:25 left in the half.
-A Connor Walker three-ball gave Newman a 24-20 lead at the 5:10 mark.
-DBU cut the deficit to 29-28, following a 6-0 run.
-A Chuck Coley dunk with six seconds left gave the Jets a 31-28 halftime lead.

Second Half
-The game remained deadlocked at the 16:31 mark, following a pair of Armie Lewis free-throws.
-A Patriot 9-2 run gave DBU a 49-43 lead with 11:32 left in regulation.
-A pair of Mason Felter free-throws cut the deficit to 53-49 with 7:01 remaining.
-DBU replied with a 16-5 run with 3:09 left in the game, essentially shutting the door on any Newman rally.

As a team, the Jets shot 35.7 percent (25-70) from the field, and 27.3 (6-22) from three-point land. Newman was out-rebounded by DBU 37-33.
