WICHITA- The men's and women's tennis teams will look to gain some momentum going into the Heartland Conference tournament when non-conference rival Emporia State comes to Wichita. Doubles play starts at 2:30 p.m. at Riverside Park. A reception will follow the matches to honor the seniors of both teams.
Men's:
The Jets have struggled much of the season, coming in to Wednesday's dual with an overall record of 5-11. Newman is coming off of a dominating 9-0 victory over Bethel in its last match on April 3. Igor Ozegoivic and
Kevin Klein has led the team with 7-9 and 6-7 records, respectively. The two players have paired as partners on the doubles side, compiling a record of 4-8.
Women's:
Newman will look for its fourth-straight victory on Wednesday, after dismantiling Bethel, Fort Hays State, and McPherson in consecutive matches. Kirstie Simon (19-7) is 14-3 in duals, and is riding a four-match winning streak. Over her last nine matches, Simon is 8-1.
Hillary Hicks (15-10),
Carissa Villaflor (9-7), and
Emily Gerber (13-5) have all won their past three matches in singles play.
