GOODWELL, Okla. – The No. 14-ranked Newman men's basketball team cruised by Oklahoma-Panhandle State on Thursday (Jan. 17). With the win, the Jets have won five straight games, upping their record to 14-1 and 5-0 in the Heartland Conference.
The Jets started strong, going up 15-2 with 11:27 left in the first half after a 3-pointer from
Trae Beck. The Aggies did not get closer than eight points in the first half as the Jets led 29-15 at the half.
The second half was all Jets as NU pushed the margin to as high as 30 points (65-35) at the 6:31 mark on a
Ryan McCarthy layup. The Jets cruised from there, winning 70-48.
Senior guard
Shamar Acuay led Newman with 16 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field. He added two assists and two steals.
Ryan McCarthy poured in 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting, including 3-for-3 from 3-point range.
Trae Beck (12) and
Darrell Traylor (10) also hit double figures for the Jets.
The Jets continue its three-game road swing with a trip to Texas Permian-Basin on Saturday (Jan. 19) at 4 p.m. in Odessa, Texas.
