Women's Soccer Wins, 5-4, at Friends

Box Score WICHITA, Kan. – The Newman women's soccer team won a high-scoring match, 5-4, at Friends University on Tuesday (Oct. 1) at Adair Austin Stadium. The Lady Jets upped their record to 3-4.
 
Maricela Ruvalcaba put the Lady Jets up early in the seventh minute on a shot from the right side of the box. Harriet Jakeman doubled the advantage to 2-0 in the 16th minute on a strike from 10-yards away. Ruvalacaba picked up the assist.
 
Friends cut the deficit in half in the 18th minute to 2-1.
 
Mei-Mei Senthavy scored in the 28th minute and pushed the margin back to two at 3-1 with her team-leading sixth goal of the season. She knocked in a rebound, and Jasmine Woodruff was credited with the assist.
 
FU scored right before halftime for a 3-2 score after the first 45 minutes.
 
The Lady Jets increased the advantage back to two in the 53rd minute when Courtney Galliher put in a pass from Senthavy for a 4-2 score.
 
The Lady Falcons didn't let the two-goal lead last, scoring 38 seconds after the NU goal for a 4-3 score.
 
Galliher added her second goal of the game and the game winner in the 79th minute as she knocked in a ball right in front for a 5-3 score.
 
The Falcons scored the final goal of the game for a 5-4 score in the 81st minute.
 
NU tallied 23 shots to 11 from FU. The Lady Jets held a 12-4 first half advantage.
 
Haley Borchers and Kayleigh Renfro split time in goal. Borchers went the first 45 minutes and allowed two goals. Renfro played the second half and made four saves and allowed two goals.
 
The Lady Jets start Heartland Conference action on Saturday (Oct. 5) at St. Mary's. Start time is set for 7:30 p.m. in San Antonio, Texas.
