Box Score WICHITA – The Newman women's soccer team matched a season-high five goals in a 5-0 shutout victory against McMurry on Saturday (Oct. 12) at Wilkins Field. The Lady Jets improved to 5-5 and 2-1 in the Heartland Conference with the win.
NU went up 1-0 early in the game with a goal in the sixth minute.
Maricela Ruvalcaba scored her first of two goals in the contest, as her shot beat the goalkeeper to the left side on a shot from towards the top of the box.
The Lady Jets added one more goal in the first half as
Mei-Mei Senthavy tallied her first goal right in front to the right side of the goal.
Channing Kelley sent in a pass from the left wing and was credited with the assist.
NU knocked in three goals in the second half with all three coming in about a 10 minute span. Ruvalcaba added her second goal in the 71st minute with the assist to Senthavy to make it 3-0. A
Blair Terry strike upped the advantage to 4-0 in the 73rd minute, and Senthavy knocked in a header in the 81st minute on a cross from Terry for the 5-0 score.
In the game, NU totaled 22 shots to six shots from McMurry. The Lady Jets had 10 corner kicks to three from the War Hawks.
Haley Borchers and
Kayleigh Renfro combined for the shutout. Borchers went the first 45 minutes and made two saves. Renfro played the second half.
The Lady Jets continue their four-game home stand on Monday (Oct. 14) with a 2:30 p.m. contest against St. Edward's at Wilkins Field.
