Box Score WICHITA – St. Edward's scored the game-winning golden goal with 5 seconds remaining in the second overtime to down Newman women's soccer, 1-0, on Monday (Oct. 14) at Wilkins Field. The Lady Jets dropped to 5-6 (2-2 Heartland Conference), and the Hilltoppers, who received votes in this week's top 25 poll, improved to 9-0-2.
The Hilltoppers sent in a cross and SEU's Lauren Heller got just enough of the ball to knock it in for the game-winning golden goal with 5 seconds left of the second 10 minute overtime period.
Sophomore
Haley Borchers was outstanding in goal for the Lady Jets, making seven saves and only missing a shutout by 5 seconds because of the late goal.
Although SEU held a 26-3 shot advantage, only eight of those shots were on goal compared to two shots on goal for the Lady Jets.
Jasmine Woodruff had two shots, and
Harriet Jakeman tallied one shot on goal.
The Lady Jets are back in action on Saturday (Oct. 19) when NU hosts Lubbock Christian at 7:30 p.m. at Wilkins Field.
