Box Score WICHITA – The Newman volleyball team fell to Dallas Baptist, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 19) at Fugate Gymasium. NU dropped to 11-8 and 5-6 in the Heartland Conference. Dallas Baptist improved to 10-11 and 8-3 in the conference.
The Patriots started strong, winning the first set 25-16. DBU hit .343 in the first set, totaling 15 kills and three errors. The Lady Jets only managed to hit .091 in the set.
NU pulled out to a 17-12 lead in the second set, forcing DBU into a timeout. After the timeout, DBU went on a 12-1 run, including nine-straight points, to get to set point at 24-18. Four straight Lady Jets point made it 24-22, but DBU closed out the set with a kill for a 25-18 win.
With the score tied at 8-8 in the third, the Patriots made a 7-0 run to go up 15-8. At 19-12, NU got five straight points to close to within two at 19-17. NU tied the score at 22-22 with three straight points. After a DBU timeout, the Patriots scored three points to win 25-22.
Jeana Farruggia led NU with 12 kills and hit .267.
Alexus Litts totaled 22 assists, and
Tori Alderson had 14 digs. The Lady Jets hit .121 for the match, while DBU hit .252.
The Lady Jets hit the road next weekend for two Heartland Conference matches. NU takes on Lubbock Christian on Thursday (Oct. 24) at 7 p.m. in Lubbock, Texas. The Lady Jets then go to Texas-Permian Basin on Saturday (Oct. 26) for a noon match in Odessa, Texas.
