Box Score LAREDO, Texas – With the score tied at 1-1 after the first half, Newman women's soccer scored three second half goals to pull away for a 4-2 victory at Texas A&M International on Monday afternoon (Oct. 7) at the TAMIU Soccer Complex. The Lady Jets moved to 4-5 and 1-1 in the Heartland Conference.
NU took a 2-1 advantage in the 69th minute on a
Maricela Ruvalcaba goal, as she hit in a cross from
Courtney Galliher from about 15-yards away.
After a TAMIU goal knotted the score at 2-2 in the 70th minute, the Lady Jets scored the next took goals for a 4-2 lead.
Mei-Mei Senthavy scored the game-winning goal with a header off a corner kick from
Blair Terry in the 82nd minute. Terry was credited with the assist. Terry got in on the scoring with a shot from 35-yards out in the last minute of regulation.
In the first half, Senthavy scored the lone NU goal in the 32nd minute on a shot from 15 yards after a pass from Ruvalcaba. The goal knotted the score at 1-1 after TAMIU scored an early goal in the eighth minute.
The Lady Jets dominated the second half with 11 shots to three from the Dustdevils. Seven of the NU shots were on goal in the second half. The Lady Jets also held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks in the second half. For the game, NU totaled 17 shots to 12 from TAMIU.
Haley Borchers got the win in goal, making seven saves and allowing two goals.
The Lady Jets return home for a game against McMurry on Saturday (Oct. 12) at 7:30 p.m. at Wilkins Field.
