Box Score WICHITA – The Newman volleyball team won, 3-0, over Oklahoma Panhandle State on Senior Day on Saturday (Nov. 16) in the season finale for the Lady Jets. NU moved to 15-12, its most wins in the Division II era, and 8-10 in the Heartland Conference. The 15 wins passes the old record of 14 wins accomplished in 2010 when the Lady Jets went 14-16 (8-4 Heartland).
The Lady Jets were strong hitting, especially in the first two sets when NU hit better than .400. In the first set, the Lady Jets hit .414 with 14 kills and only two errors. NU hit even better in the second set at .450 with 10 kills and only one error. Through the first two sets, the Lady Jets were hitting .417 with 23 kills and only three errors. NU won the first two sets 25-9 and 25-8.
In the third set, the Lady Jets won 25-18. NU totaled 10 kills, but hit only .094 as they were hampered by seven errors.
For the match, NU hit .296, which is the second-highest hitting percentage this season. The Lady Jets hit .397 in a 3-0 win against Barclay College on Sept. 24.
The Aggies struggled to get anything going all match, hitting -.034 with 21 errors and 18 kills.
Senior
Belinda Rohling tallied eight kills and hit .533 in her final match.
Ashley Gonzalez totaled seven kills and hit an impressive .875.
Alexus Litts finished with 26 assists on the 30 NU kills, and senior
Tori Alderson had a match-high 11 digs in her final match.
NU volleyball finished the season with a 15-12 record, its first-ever winning season in Division II history and the most-ever wins in Division II history.
