Box Score WICHITA – The Newman men's basketball team pulled away from Bethel College for an 82-58 win on Tuesday (Nov. 26) at Fugate Gymnasium. The Jets improved to 3-3 on the season.
Trae Beck tied a season-high with five 3-pointers en route to a game-high 15 points. Beck went 5-of-9 from 3-point range in the contest. He totaled the 15 points in only 15 minutes.
Marquis Cuyler was one rebound away from a double-double, finishing with 11 points and nine rebounds. He went 7-of-9 from the free throw line. He added two steals and one block in 22 minutes.
Jeremy Espinoza tallied 11 points and eight rebounds in 18 minutes. He added two steals. Also in double figures was
Jack Pyle with 11 points.
Perryonte Smith dished out a game-high seven assists. He had only one turnover, only his fourth turnover of the season in six games.
The Jets pulled out to a 39-23 advantage at halftime. NU's largest lead of the game was 29 points, 69-40, with 9:15 left in the game after two Cuyler free throws.
All 13 Jets who saw action scored in the game. And all 13 players played at least 7 minutes.
NU shot 38.6 percent from the field (27-70), including 44.1 percent (44.1) in the second half. The Jets were 8-of-23 from 3-point range (34.8 percent).
The defense held Bethel to 32.7 percent (17-52) from the field. And the Jets out-rebounded the Threshers, 53-34, and totaled 24 offensive rebounds.
The Jets start the conference season on Monday (Dec. 2) at Rogers State in Claremore, Okla. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
