WICHITA – Newman men's tennis ran its winning streak to three straight as the Jets defeated Friends, 8-1, on Wednesday (March 13) in Wichita. NU has won three straight and are 5-7 on the season.
 
The men swept doubles competition, winning all three matches. Nei Dos Santos and Freddy Sanchez got a close 9-7 win at No. 1 doubles, and Ramon Nola and Jared Ferris won 8-3 at No. 2 doubles. At No. 3 doubles, Mitchel Whitmer and Jeff Wherritt won by default.
 
The Jets won five of the six singles matches, all five in straight sets or by default. Dos Santos won 6-2. 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Sanchez rolled to a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles. At No. 3 singles, Nola blanked Patrick Trollman, 6-0, 6-0. Wherritt got a won at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-1, and Whitmer won by default at No. 6 singles.
 
Newman is back in action on Saturday (March 16) against Texas-Permian Basin in Austin, Texas. The match is set to begin at 12 p.m.
