Men’s Tennis Downed by UTPB, 5-1, in Heartland Conference Tournament

DALLAS – The Newman men's tennis team fell to Texas-Permian Basin, 5-1, on Friday (April 19) in the first round of the Heartland Conference Tournament.
 
In doubles competition, the Jets won one of the three matches. At No. 1 doubles, Nei Dos Santos and Freddy Sanchez won, 8-5, over Alcaro Sifuentes and Jaxon Immler. Nu dropped the other two doubles matches.
 
The Falcons won three of the singles matches to get the 5-1 victory. Sifuentes won 6-4, 6-2 against Freddy Sanchez at No. 2 singles, Justin Delgado defeated NU's Mitchel Whitmer 6-1, 6-4 and Immler got a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles to give UTPB the victory.
 
In the three unfinished matches, Dos Santos and Jonathan Rutledge were in a close 6-3, 1-6, 1-0 battle when the match was called. Ramon Nola and Meliton Morales were also in a close 3-6, 4-2 match at No. 3 singles, and Jared Ferris and Adam Cheney had scores of 6-4, 5-3 at No. 4 singles.
