Box Score DALLAS – Newman volleyball dropped its Heartland Conference opener to Dallas Baptist, 3-0, on Thursday (Sept. 12) at the Burg Center. The Lady Jets dropped to 2-3 on the season and 0-1 in the Heartland Conference.
The first set was close early with DBU holding a slight 14-13 advantage; however, the Patriots went on a 5-0 run to pull out to a 19-14 lead. DBU then ended the set winning six of the last eight points for the 25-16 win.
In the second set, the hosts Patriots continued with their momentum from the first set and started fast for a 9-2 advantage. NU made a run from there, scoring six-straight points to pull to within one at 10-9. After two DBU points, the Lady Jets took a one-point lead, 13-12 with a 4-0 run. The Patriots finished the set strong, winning 13 of the last 17 points to win set two, 25-17.
The third set saw DBU pull out to a 13-6 lead. The Lady Jets made a few spurts, including three straight points to make it 19-14, but NU couldn't get any closer, falling 25-16 in the third set.
Shelby Zoglman and
Ashley Gonzalez led the Lady Jets with six kills each, and Zoglman hit .286.
Alexus Litts had 21 assists and seven digs, and
Tori Alderson totaled 10 digs.
The Lady Jets travel to Arkansas-Fort Smith on Saturday (Sept. 14) for a 12 p.m. match.
