WICHITA – The Newman women's soccer team starts the 2013 season on Thursday (Sept. 5) when the Lady Jets host Southwestern College at 7 p.m. at Wilkins Field on the campus of Newman University.

NU was picked to finish fifth in the Heartland Conference Preseason Poll after going 7-10-1 in 2012, including 2-7-1 in the Heartland Conference.

In his second season, head coach Victor Garcia-Bebek has nine returning letter-winners from the 2012 team. A season ago, Blair Terry led the Lady Jets' offensive attack with four goals and four assists. Also returning is goalkeeper Kayleigh Renfro, who was once selected as Heartland Conference Player of the week in 2012. Nine newcomers join the Jets for the 2013 campaign with a mix of three freshmen and six transfers.

The game is the first of eight home dates for the Lady Jets, including four Heartland Conference games.
