MUSKOGEE, Okla. – The Newman volleyball team picked up a 3-0 win at Bacone College on Tuesday (Oct. 14) at the Palmer Center Gym. The Lady Jets cruised to set wins of 25-17, 25-17 and 25-16. NU moved to 8-10 on the season.
In the first set, NU used two 4-0 runs and a 5-0 to pull out to a 22-11 advantage. After four points from Bacone College, the Lady Jets put the set away, 25-17.
The Lady Jets started set two with a 3-0 spurt. With the score knotted at 3-3, NU scored eight of the next nine points for an 11-4 advantage. The Lady Jet lead was only four at 16-12 then NU went on a 7-1 run for a 21-12 edge. NU went on to win set two by the score of 25-17 on an
Alexis Roecker kill.
Up 12-10 in the third set, six straight points increased the NU advantage to 18-10. With the Lady Jets still in front at 22-16, NU ended the set with a 3-0 run – all kills from
Gaylynn Jones for the 25-16 set win.
The Lady Jet offense was balanced with five Lady Jets getting six or more kills.
Ashley Gonzalez put down a team-high eight kills, hitting a match-high .467. Roecker added seven kills. Jones,
Jarin Braithwait and
Emily Harvey each registered six kills.
Lexi Kuharich totaled 31 assists, a match high, and
Anna Burton tallied a match-high 20 digs.
NU hit .261 for the match with 38 kills and seven errors. BC's hitting percentage was .037 with 29 kills and 24 errors.
The Lady Jets return home for two Heartland Conference matches this week. NU takes on Lubbock Christian on Thursday (Oct. 16) at 7 p.m. at Fugate Gymnasium. Live stats and video will be provided.
