KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Newman volleyball team is looking to continue its three-match winning streak tonight (Oct. 22) in a non-conference match at Rockhurst at the Mason-Halpin Fieldhouse at 7 p.m.
The Lady Jets have won three straight matches. NU defeated Bacone College on Oct. 14, 3-0, on the road and then came home to take two wins against Heartland Conference foes. NU won a close five-set match over Lubbock Christian on Oct. 16, and closed out the week with a 3-1 victory over Texas-Permian Basin on Oct. 18. With the streak, the Lady Jets moved to 10-10 on the season and 6-6 in the Heartland Conference.
Lexi Kuharich was named the Heartland Conference Setter of the Week after a career-high 58 assists in the 3-2 win over LCU. She added 51 assists in the win over UTPB.
Rockhurst is 17-3 on the season, but lost its most recent match to Grand Valley State, 3-1, in the GLVC-GLIAC Crossover. Before the loss, the Hawks five straight matches. At home this season, Rockhurst is a perfect 11-0 and the home winning streak is 16 straight matches. The last Hawks home loss was Oct. 11, 2013 against Truman.
The Hawk offense is led by Morgan Rietzke and Preecy Seever, both of whom average more than three kills per set. Whitney Kostal averages 11.51 assists per set, and the defense is balanced with Anne Hellwege, Lauren Poulicek and Alyssa Arnold all getting more than three digs a set.

After tonight's contest, NU travels to St. Edward's on Saturday (Oct. 25) to take on the Hilltoppers at 12 p.m. SEU is 14-3 on the season and 8-2 in the Heartland Conference.
