WICHITA – The Newman volleyball team hosts St. Mary's tonight at 7 p.m. at Fugate Gymnasium for its Halloween Game. The Lady Jets look to take control of the third seed in the Heartland Conference Tournament.
Wear your best Halloween costume for your chance to win a gift card. There will also be a pie eating contest during intermission between the second and third sets. The winner will also win a gift card.
The Lady Jets have won four straight home matches, including a 3-1 win over Bacone College on Tuesday (Oct. 28) night. NU is also on a three-match Heartland Conference winning streak and won five of the last six conference matches. On the season, the Lady Jets are 7-6 in the conference and 12-11 overall. NU currently is fourth in the Heartland Conference standings and rank third for the conference tournament as Lubbock Christian is not eligible for postseason. The Lady Jets hold a one-match lead on Dallas Baptist and a 1.5-match lead on Texas-Permian Basin and St. Mary's. The top four team advance to the conference tournament. Tonight's match and Saturday's match are the final two home contests this season for the Lady Jets.
The Rattlers are currently 8-12 and 5-7 in the Heartland Conference. StMU has struggled lately, losing five straight matches, including three against conference foes: Lubbock Christian, St. Edward's and Texas A&M International. They have lost five of their last six in conference play. The Rattlers are 2-6 on the road. Melissa Heft leads the Rattlers with 2.96 kills per set. Rachael Scicchitano and Kalyn Guthrie are the setters, averaging 6.1 and 4.9 assists, respectively. Victorria Martinez averages a team-high 6.4 digs per set.
NU's home schedule ends on Saturday with Senior Day against Texas A&M International at 12 p.m. at Fugate Gymnasium. Two seniors:

Shelby Zoglman will be honored during the match.
