WICHITA – The Newman volleyball team ends its 2014 home schedule with a Heartland Conference match against Texas A&M International on Saturday (Nov. 1) at Fugate Gymnasium. Two seniors:
Tori Provencio and
Shelby Zoglman will be recognized during the match. Live video and stats will be available for the contest
The Lady Jets are currently 12-12 and 7-7 in the Heartland Conference, sitting in fourth place overall and third place for the Heartland Conference Tournament. In their home slate, NU has gone 6-3 so far on the season. The Lady Jets fell, 3-0, to St. Mary's on Thursday (Oct. 30) at Fugate Gymnasium. With a victory, NU will be in great position to qualify for the Heartland Conference Tournament.
Provencio is a key defensive specialist. She has nine starts and has appeared in 20 matches this season. Provencio has totaled 147 digs for a 2.41 set average this season. Zoglman is a rightside hitter and has 120 kills this season for a 1.62 kill per set average. She has started nine matches and appeared in 23. She is hitting .170 on the season. Provencio and Zoglman have played two seasons for NU volleyball.
The Dustdevils are 4-17 and 3-10 in the Heartland Conference. They are currently on a two-match winning streak in conference play, defeating StMU, 3-2, and Oklahoma Panhandle State, 3-0. For the season, the Dustdevils are 1-8 on the road with their lone victory against OPSU on Thursday. Miaje Hubbard leads the offense with 2.95 kills per set. Lizzie Priesto averages a team-high 8.01 assists per set, and Sophia Quinones digs up a team-best 4.3 digs per set.
After Saturday, the Lady Jets travel to Alva, Okla. for two matches. NU takes on Northwestern Oklahoma State and Oklahoma Panhandle State on Nov. 4 at 4 and 6 p.m., respectively.
