WICHITA - The Newman women's soccer offense failed to get going as the Lady Jets fell, 1-0, to St. Mary's on Monday (Oct. 6) afternoon at Wilkins Field. NU dropped to 4-5-1 and 0-2 in the Heartland Conference.
 
The Rattlers scored what would be the only goal early in the second half in the 47th minute. Kristal Williams hit a shot from 18 yards to the left post.
 
Despite being outscored 1-0, NU held a slight 8-7 edge in shots, including a 5-3 advantage in the first half. NU totaled two shots on goal to one from StMU, which came on the goal. The Lady Jets also held an advantage in corner kicks with four compared to two from the Rattlers.
 
NU goes on the road for the next three matches, all Heartland Conference contests. The Lady Jets play at St. Edward's on Saturday (Oct. 11) in Austin, Texas. NU then goes to Texas-Permian Basin and Lubbock Christian the next weekend.
